After 132 days, daily new Covid cases fall below 30,000

NEW DELHI: India reported 29,689 new Covid cases in the last 24 hours. This is the lowest daily rise in new cases in over four months.
The country had last reported under-30,000 new cases on March 17, 132 days back, before the second wave started peaking.
During the decline of the second wave, 30,093 cases were reported on July 20.
The daily positivity rate has declined to 1.73 per cent. The weekly positivity rate was recorded at 2.33 per cent, health ministry data stated.

415 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, taking the cumulative toll to 421,832.
According to health ministry reports, the country’s active caseload has dropped to under 4 lakhs after a gap of 124 days; it currently stands at 398,100, constituting 1.27% of total cases.
Dail cases have seen a significant fall since the second wave of the pandemic started declining in the first half of May. During the peak in May, the average daily rise kept above the 4-lakh mark.
A total of 44,19,12,395 vaccine doses have been administered in the country so far. The figure for yesterday itself was over 66 lakh, according to heath ministry data.
The number of people vaccinated with 2 doses is now 9,53,96,246.
17,20,110 Covid-19 tests were conducted on Monday, taking the total number of tests conducted so far to 45,91,64,121.
