IPL 2020: KXIP aim to bounce back against RCB

From an umpiring howler to a Super Over heartbreak, Kings XI Punjab witnessed it all in their tournament opener against Delhi Capitals on Sunday. Unnerved by the outcome, the two Karnataka men at the helm of the Mohali-based franchise, mentor Anil Kumble and skipper KL Rahul, will now be up against the Royal Challengers Bangalore, a team which the duo represented in the earlier editions of the IPL.
Kings XI have themselves to blame for messing up it up towards the end of their opening match. They rode on an impressive effort from opener Mayank Agarwal, who pulled them back from the dead. Just when they were cruising to victory, needing only one off three deliveries, they ended up losing two wickets and eventually managed to push the match to the Super Over.

Kagiso Rabada then ensured the night belonged to Delhi. Going into Thursday’s tie, Punjab will revisit their over-dependence on Rahul and Agarwal’s opening combo and expect the middle order, comprising Karun Nair, Glenn Maxwell and Nicholas Pooran, to press the accelerator.
While the 40-yearold Jamaican powerhitter Chris Gayle was left out of the opening tie, the team management might be tempted to bring him in and bolster the middle order by pushing the in-form Agarwal to No. 3, a strategy that worked in their favour last year.
On the other hand, the Virat Kohli-led RCB too have their share of woes, especially in the pace department. Dale Steyn did manage a wicket but looked nowhere close to his lethal best while Umesh Yadav was quite pedestrian in the opening game. Navdeep Saini and Shivam Dube bowled well, but it was the leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal who stood out as the ‘game-changer’ with three scalps.
RCB will be hoping for another spectacular opening stand from the Devdutt Padikkal and Aaron Finch. Young Devdutt continued his knack of scoring half-centuries on debut, as he has done in domestic cricket, and smoked 56 off 42 deliveries to set the tone. With Kohli and the ever dependable AB de Villiers in the middle-order, the stage is set for another mouth-watering contest against the likes of Shami and Cottrell.
