Violent mob attempts to storm SP office in Manipur
NEW DELHI: A mob of approximately 300-400 people attempted to storm the office of the Superintendent of Police (SP) in Churachandpur, Manipur on Thursday night.
The incident was followed hours after a head constable of the district police was suspended for allegedly being seen in a video with armed individuals. The Manipur Police, in a statement to X, revealed that the mob threw stones and engaged in other violent activities in an attempt to breach the SP’s office.In response, the security forces, including the Rapid Action Force (RAF), used tear gas shells to control the situation. The authorities are closely monitoring the situation.
“Mob numbering approx 300-400 attempted to storm the office of SP CCP today, pelting stone, etc. The SF including RAF is responding appropriately by firing tear gas shell to control the situation. Things are being under watch”.
The head constable, Siamlalpaul, has been immediately suspended until further notice by the SP of Churachandpur, Shivanand Surve. This decision was made after a video went viral on social media, showing Siamlalpaul in the company of armed men and village volunteers.
“This tantamount to very grave misconduct being a member of the disciplined police force,” a police order said.
“A departmental inquiry is being contemplated against Siamlalpaul of Churachandpur district police, as a clip has gone viral on social media showing him making a video with armed men on February 14,” the order said.
The police department is considering a departmental inquiry against Siamlalpaul, specifically regarding the video that circulated on social media, which was recorded on February 14. Until further notice, Siamlalpaul is prohibited from leaving the station without prior permission. Furthermore, his pay and allowances have been limited to the subsistence allowance as per the applicable rules and regulations.
