Kolkata rape-murder case: Psych profile shows accused as ‘sexual pervert’ with animal instinct
KOLKATA: CBI’s psychoanalytic profile of traffic police volunteer Sanjay Roy, the lone suspect to be arrested in the RG Kar Medical College rape-murder case, paints a picture of a “sexual pervert” with “animal instincts”.
The team of psychoanalysts enlisted to interrogate the 31-year-old found a seemingly unflustered person who narrated his version of what happened at the crime scene without a trace of emotion.
The experts, who joined the CBI investigation Sunday, also scanned his statements to the agency so far to try and link those to the postmortem and forensic findings. CBI officials said Roy’s presence at the crime scene had been corroborated by technical and scientific evidence, but they remained non-committal on the outcome of DNA tests.
Before CBI took over the case, police announced that traces of blood and skin found under the victim’s nails matched the injuries on Roy’s hands.
The central agency is scheduled to submit a status report on the probe so far to Supreme Court Thursday.
CBI sources said CCTV footage collected from RG Kar showed Roy near the chest department ward around 11am on Aug 8. The 31-year-old victim was then in the ward along with at least four other junior doctors. Roy was seen staring at them for a while before leaving.
During interrogation, Roy claimed he had entered the ward earlier that evening.
According to CBI, the victim left the ward for dinner with other junior doctors and returned to the seminar hall a little after 1am on Aug 9. A junior doctor entered the hall around 2.30am and the victim had a word with him before going back to sleep.
Roy is seen in CCTV footage re-entering the hospital premises at 4am. Investigators believe he then reached the third-floor seminar hall, where the victim was asleep.
Roy is scheduled to be produced in court again Friday, when defence lawyers appointed by the state will meet him for the first time. During his earlier appearance in court, no lawyer was ready to represent him. CBI is considering a virtual hearing for safety reasons.
