BCCI not too keen on pink-ball day/night Tests

MUMBAI: The BCCI isn’t a big fan of pink-ball day/night Tests. There are no pink-ball day/night Tests slotted in India’s home season this time, either for men or women.
Talking to the reporters on the on the sidelines of the Women’s Premier League-2 auction here, BCCI secretary Jay Shah told reporters that the BCCI isn’t really in favour of pink-ball Tests for now, as the matches tend to finish “inside two-three days,” rather than lasting for four-five days.
“We will have to increase the amount of interest in the public for the pink-ball Test. If you recall, the (pink-ball) Tests ended in two-three days. Everyone wants to watch a Test match lasting four-five days. Once they get more used to it, we will do more pink-ball Tests.
“Last time it was done in Australia, no one has done it since then. We were in talks with England, but we will do it gradually,” Shah said.
So far, the Indian men’s team has played four pink-ball Tests, winning three and losing one. India’s most recent pink-ball Test was at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore against Sri Lanka which was wrapped up in only three days.
The Indian women’s team only pink-ball Test was against Australia and it ended in a draw at Queensland in 2021.
Meanwhile, the England’s Men’s Physical Disability team too will be touring India in January and February for a five I20s series. The England & Wales Cricket Board recently announced that Callum Flynn will lead a 15-man English squad for the tour, which will see matches being played in Ahmedabad and Udaipur from January 24-February 7.
Assuring that the BCCI will back India’s disability team, Shah said, “We will one hundred per cent support them, it is our initiative so we will support them in whatever they may need. A lot of companies do CSR to help (for them) but whatever help they need from the BCCI, they are most welcome.”
