Celkon Resolute JV to make WiFi 6 routers for Chinese telecom player ZTE
HYDERABAD: Celkon Resolute, a 50:50 joint venture between Hyderabad-based Celkon Group and Resolute Group, have entered into a partnership with Chinese telecommunications equipment player ZTE Telecom to manufacture WiFi 6 routers at a new facility at Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh (AP).
The facility, which is expected to become operational in August this year, is coming up at the Tirupati Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC-1) and will initially create around 1,000 jobs.
The JV company said the facility will have an initial capacity to make two lakh WiFi 6 routers per month and will be expanded to five lakh units per month within three to four months of the facility becoming operational with an eye on catering to the export markets.
The JV partners said the strategic alliance marks a significant leap towards integrating advanced solutions, starting with the implementation of WiFi 6 technology. The collaboration between Celkon Resolute and ZTE Telecom aims to introduce cutting-edge WiFi 6 technology globally, which will enable faster and more reliable internet connectivity, they said in a joint communique.
Welcoming the new investment, AP’s new IT minister Nara Lokesh said this is just the beginning for ZTE in AP with WiFi 6 router manufacturing. “We wish to see other verticals from the global ZTE portfolio being produced in AP,” Lokesh said.
ZTE Telecom CEO Liu Chao said ZTE’s high-end technologies will encompass comprehensive data collection from citizens, devices, buildings, and assets, paving the way for a more connected and efficient urban environment.
He said the introduction of WiFi 6 routers will revolutionise infrastructure globally by enabling seamless connectivity and enhanced data management as they will provide faster speeds, greater capacity, and reduced latency, which are crucial for the development of various applications such as smart traffic management, efficient energy usage, enhanced security systems, and better public services.
Celkon Group chairman & managing director Y Guru said the JV would also look at manufacturing other new emerging tech-related products, including those based on IoT and AI technologies, at the Tirupati facility.
Resolute Group CMD Raminder Soin said the addition of WiFi 6 router manufacturing will help his group strengthen its portfolio, which includes mobiles, tablet PCs, televisions and interactive flat panels.
