Delhi Capitals create unique record against Lucknow

NEW DELHI: Delhi Capitals got back to winning ways with a comfortable six-wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL 2024 match on Friday. With this triumph, DC accomplished a feat that no other team has achieved before.
Delhi became the first team in IPL history to chase down 160 or more runs against Lucknow and register their second win of the season. The victory was also DC’s maiden against LSG in IPL.
Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans are among the other teams who have successfully chased down targets against LSG, achieving victories when they chased down 160 and 159 runs respectively.
Chasing a target of 168, Delhi didn’t have the ideal start as David Warner suffered a blow to his wrists and subsequently chopped one back onto his stumps. However, this setback brought youngster Jake Fraser-McGurk to the crease, who made an impactful debut by launching two sixes in the IPL.
Fraser-McGurk found solid support from Prithvi Shaw, who aggressively scored six boundaries during the powerplay. However, Shaw’s attacking intent led to his downfall as he holed out while trying to take on Ravi Bishnoi.
Following the powerplay, there was a period of relative calm as Lucknow tightened their grip with four quiet overs, spearheaded by Bishnoi.
Fraser-McGurk encountered difficulty in finding his timing, prompting skipper Rishabh Pant to take charge. Pant launched an attack on Bishnoi, smashing a boundary and a six, ultimately shifting the momentum of the game.
