Earthquake of Magnitude 3.4 Hits Jolts Ladakh’s Kargil

An earthquake of magnitude 3.4 on the Richter Scale hit Kargil, Ladakh at 11:55 pm (IST) on Saturday, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS). No injuries were reported.
“Earthquake of Magnitude:3.4, Occurred on 06-04-2024, 22:55:29 IST, Lat: 33.29 & Long: 76.77, Depth: 10 Km ,Region: Kargil, Ladakh,” the NCS said in a statement.
An earthquake jolted the New York City (NYC) metropolitan area Friday morning, the US Geological Survey said.
The agency reported a quake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.7, centred near Lebanon, New Jersey, or about 45 miles west of New York City and 50 miles north of Philadelphia.
NYC Emergency Management, in an X post, said, “If you are in danger, please dial 911. To report non-emergency issues please call 311. Communicate your status so others know you’re okay. Text messages are more likely to go through when phone lines are busy. Check on your neighbours if safe to do so.”
Parts of north India were jolted as a 5.3-magnitude earthquake hit Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh on Thursday. The earthquake struck at 9.34 pm, the National Center for Seismology (NCS) said.
The earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 km in Chamba district, officials of the meteorological department in Shimla said.
