India reclaim second spot in WTC standings after series-levelling win
NEW DELHI: Team India on Monday reclaimed the second spot in the latest ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 standings after securing a convincing 106-run victory over England in the second Test in Vizag.
The surprise defeat in the first Test in Hyderabad saw India slip to fifth spot in the WTC standings from the second position.
However, victory on Monday helped India jump back to the second spot, behind table toppers Australia.The win meant Rohit Sharma and co. levelled the 5-match series 1-1.
The victory also pushed their point percentage to 52.77 in the updated standings.
South Africa, New Zealand and Bangladesh are on the third, fourth and fifth position in the standings with the top five teams separated by a mere 5 percent in point percentage.
The Vizag Test saw opener Yashasvi Jaiswal slamming his Test career-best score of 209 in the first innings. Shubman Gill also hit his first Test ton batting at no.3 position for India in the second innings.
Pacer Basprit Bumrah had a phenomenal outing in the Test, claiming 9 wickets combined in both innings. However veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashiwn remained stranded at 499 wickets.
The third Test will begin from February 15 in Rajkot.
