Narine becomes third KKR batter to achieve this feat in IPL
NEW DELHI: Sunil Narine, known primarily for his crafty spin bowling, has also showcased his explosive batting skills on numerous occasions in this IPL season. His knack for clearing the boundary ropes with ease, especially in the shortest format of the game makes him a formidable force.
The Kolkata Knight Riders all-rounder’s consistent batting performances has become the talk of the town. While opening the batting, Narine dismantles the opposition bowling attacks with his aggressive stroke play and quick scoring.
Narine etched his name in the history books on Tuesday by becoming only the third KKR batter to score a century in the history of IPL since its inception in 2008.
Narine got to his maiden IPL century off just 49 balls against Rajasthan Royals at Eden Gardens before being dismissed for 109 by Trent Boult. His innings featured a stunning array of 13 boundaries and six towering sixes.
Brendon McCullum was the first KKR batter to have scored a hundred who smashed an unbeaten 158 against RCB in IPL’s first-ever match way back in 2008. Venkatesh Iyer was the second batter when he made 104 against Mumbai Indians last year.
The West Indian attributed his confidence in opening the batting to KKR’s mentor Gautam Gambhir.
“With GG (Gambhir) coming back, he gave me the confidence and his assurance that I’ll open the batting,” he said during mid innings break.
