Public Examinations Bill 2024 Comes Into Force From June 21, Aims To Curb Paper Leaks

Amid the ongoing paper leak row, the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024 has come into force from Friday, June 21.
The Act aims to curb paper leaks, and malpractices as well as organised malpractices in recruitment examinations like UPSC, SSC etc and entrance tests such as NEET, JEE and CUET.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (2) of section 1 of the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024 (1 of 2024), the Central Government hereby appoints the 21st day of June, 2024 as the date on which the provisions of the said Act shall come into force,” the official notification released by the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions read.
Minister of State (MoS) for the Ministry of Science and Technology and Minister of State for Prime Minister’s Office; Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions Dr Jitendra Singh said, “The Bill is aimed at curbing corrupt practice by few unscrupulous elements that plays havoc with the future of our youth, destroying their careers and aspirations and occasionally resulting in fatal suicides.”
The development comes amid the UGC-NEET paper leak row and serious questions about the “integrity” of the UGC-NET exam, following which the examination was cancelled by the central government.
