The parents of the trainee doctor who was raped and murdered at RG Kar Hospital said that they hope the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will be able to deliver justice.
The parents of the junior doctor who was allegedly raped and murdered last month in Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on Sunday accused the police of ‘removing the evidence’.
“Police have tried to remove evidence from the very first… Police never cooperated. If they would have helped us then we could have justice,” the father of the trainee doctor said.
The murder and rape of the junior doctor inside a seminar hall of the state-run hospital sparked nationwide protests.
The medic’s body with severe injury marks was found inside the seminar hall of the hospital’s chest department on August 9. A civic volunteer was arrested by the Kolkata Police in connection with the case the following day.
“My daughter has wanted to become a doctor since early childhood. When she was calling out for me in her final moments, we could not help,” the mother of the trainee doctor said.
“We have confidence in the CBI and hope to receive justice tomorrow,” the trainee doctor said.
The parents of the doctor have highlighted on several occasions that they believe that there is something bigger at play and have expressed their dissatisfaction over how the state police handled the case.
They last month also expressed their disapproval over how chief minister Mamata Banerjee handled the case.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court is scheduled to hear on Monday the case related to the murder and alleged rape of a junior doctor at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.
According to the cause list uploaded on the apex court’s website, a bench of Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra is slated to hear on September 9 the case, which was initiated by the top court on its own.
