‘You always have to be down to earth, especially in…’: Iyer

NEW DELHI: Sunil Narine‘s blistering 85 propelled Kolkata Knight Riders to a commanding total of 272-7, marking the second-highest ever score in IPL history, during their resounding 106-run triumph over Delhi Capitals on Wednesday.
This monumental score came on the heels of Sunrisers Hyderabad’s record-breaking innings total of 277-3 just a week prior.

With this victory, Kolkata, champions of IPL in 2012 and 2014, maintained their undefeated streak from three matches this season. They subsequently bowled out Delhi for 166 in 17.2 overs, securing their position at the top of the 10-team table.
Despite securing three consecutive wins, KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer cautioned his team against complacency and urged them to remain focused.
“You always have to be down to earth, especially in the IPL,” Iyer said in the post-match presentation.
On posting IPL’s second highest total ever, Iyer said he initially thought of 210-220 after Narine’s blitzkrieg but 270 was beyond expectation.
“No no, the way we started we thought 210-220, but 270 was icing on the cake. As I said in the toss interview, Sunny is there to take on the bowlers, and if he cannot the rest of us should. That’s the plan,” he added.
Emerging star Angkrish Raghuvanshi impressed with a fluent half-century on his IPL batting debut and Iyer was pleased with work ethic.
“He was fearless from ball one. His work ethic is phenomenal. He analyzes situations well. He is a smart batter, shots were pleasing to the eye,” Iyer said.
